Alkalizing Diet

When you understand the impact that an alkalizing diet can have on your body and the sweet relief it can give in maintaining the pH value of your body, it’s surprising to see a popular diet selection of food that is highly or moderately acidic. No B.S here but if you look at a food chart which consists of commonly eaten foods, you’ll find truth in these words.

I’m not one to write something that I don’t believe in, and as I’m cynical enough not to believe in numerous celebrity endorsements for causes that involve fitness or diets, I conducted an experiment over the last week to validate the claims and benefits that involve imbibing the alkaline healthier way of life.

Lemons_PicSo, the first part of the experiment was to add lemon syrup in the water I drink every morning. Even though a lemon contains citric acid, it is converted into an alkali when digested in the body. And this is the simplest method in an effort to alkalize your life, which includes alkalizing your drinking water. And not surprisingly, slowly but surely it began to work.

I’ve already seen a rise in energy levels, better sleep, and I even managed to digest my favorite yet difficult to digest food, shrimp which completely surprised my Mom that she’s considering taking on this healthy approach to food and drink. Another obvious observation is that my stomach began to cool down which used to burn earlier, and my concentration levels were getting better, and still are as we speak. And please, I’m not a celebrity and this is no endorsement either, so the message I’m NOT trying to get across is that by switching to an alkaline way of life, it will transform you instantly into a super-model. But if you keep at it, you can get there in a matter of time… and it’s less than you think.

So, the next step from here was to experiment with alkaline foods, so based on the food chart, I visited a supermarket that has a salad bar, and meticulously selected veggies that are alkalizing in nature such as tomatoes, sprouts, peppers, carrots and cucumber. And this is where I recall humorously, my boss from Boston taking a dig at me by suggesting at my refusal that it might be too healthy for me from not so long ago. OK, enough nostalgia and let’s get down to specifics when it comes to an alkalizing diet.

Interestingly, almost all vegetables and fruits are ‘alkaline’ with the meats, seafood & grain section of your menu and that are consumed in unnecessarily large quantities are acidic in nature and just not good for you which I’ll explain later. Most dairy products on the shelf are acidic as well, and unfortunately as you should have realized by now, your complete diet now consists of a combination of meat, seafood and grains that work against your body, help you put on weight, and well, require you to make frequent visits to your local physician. And if you haven’t realized this already, there, I just brought it up. Trust me, all these issues are taken care of once you switch to an alkaline diet, and here’s why.

Now, the pH scale from 1 to 14 is divided into two sections, acidic (1 to 7) and alkaline (7 to 14), and your body does its absolute best to maintain a pH value of 7.35. Now, it’s not rocket science to deduce from this value that your body prefers a pH value that tends towards alkalinity. Unfortunately, the diet we survive on, and I mean survive on, consists of mostly acidic food, which is far from ideal. Wellness experts say that an 80/20 ratio should be maintained, meaning 80% alkaline and 20% acidic, and by now you can see that those values have been interchanged, thanks to the trash we eat everyday.

So, if we alkalize our life, you’ll make it easier for the body to maintain that pH value which in turn will ensure that you feel more energetic, healthy and concentrate and most of all, avoid those hospital visits that ultimately give you grief about health insurance costs.

So, in closing and from recent experience, I can’t stress the importance of moving from an acidic diet to an alkalizing one, and slowly but surely, you’ll begin to reap the benefits of what it is to look and most importantly, to feel better.
