Aquatic Exercise – Beating the odds

There has been a huge explosion in recent years of reality TV shows based on the struggles faced by the obese and the morbidly obese during weight loss.

The reason for this fascination shines a glaring spotlight on an incredibly frightening US statistic.

Here are some of the numbers:
58 million people are overweight. 40 million of those are obese and 3 million are morbidly obese. 78% of Americans do NOT meet the basic activity recommendations and 25% of Americans are completely sedentary. In other words, 25% of the population cannot get up out of bed and move under their own power due to their weight.

It’s hard to hear. It’s shocking and it’s killing us. The saddest thing of all is that it is completely unnecessary.

In the wake of these statistics, slowly but surely, America is beginning to fight back.

Because of the health risks involved with being severely overweight one of the most beneficial and most easily accessible methods of weight loss is aquatic exercise. You cannot take an obese person and start yelling at them to run a mile a day or to live off of salads. It simply doesn’t work that way.

Someone with severely compromised mobility and health needs a game plan that is suited to their own personal situation while supporting them physically during the process. This is why aquatic fitness equipment has become so popular.

The natural buoyancy of water can allow a level of movement and exercise that is in no way, shape or form, possible on land. Water not only supports your frame and makes stretching and movement possible, it also increases circulation, reduces blood pressure, and can significantly increase flexibility.

These obvious benefits mean that aquatic fitness equipment such as an underwater treadmill or lap pool can be the difference between actual significant weight loss and defeat.

A weight loss program that works is a weight loss program that is followed religiously. If you can’t get to a gym or can’t do much when you get there due to your current fitness level, the chances of you following the regime are low.

If your weight loss plan includes aquatic fitness equipment, your chances are far better as the exercise will cushion and support you while still providing a terrific workout that is within your grasp.

The more results that a person can see mean that the likelihood of them staying on track is greatly improved.

At the end of the day, the goal is health, so take any tool available, from an underwater treadmill to the local lap pool in your neighborhood, in order to help you be successful in reaching that goal.
