Bike Your Way to Great Health
If you are looking for a fun way to get exercise that doesn't involve going to a gym, and allows you to enjoy the great outdoors, then bicycling may be just the thing for you. It is a really fun way to get in shape, and you can do it alone or in a group.
Street or Off-Road?
You have plenty of options when it comes to using a bicycle to get into shape. If you are new to the sport, you may want to take it easy at first and stick to bicycling on the streets, and avoid large hills to start.
Of course, you will want to go farther and farther each day, and as you go, you will build the strength to take on those hills. Many people decide that they really enjoy bike riding along streets, and even on trails in parks, and they like the even terrain.
There are also those who really love biking off-road. This can be really challenging, and for some, it is even an extreme sport (of course, you only want to get in shape, not try to kill yourself, so be careful).
Use Your Bike to Help the Environment
As long as there is no snow on the ground, do you really need to take your car to work? Instead of driving and adding pollution to the environment, you should think about riding your bicycle instead.
This way, you can't say you don't have the time to go for a bike ride, because you will already be getting your exercise, and, you will be leaving less of a carbon footprint. And, the ride home will provide even more exercise.
And, you don't have to limit your bike rides to just going back and forth from work. You can use your bicycle to run errands, and go other places you would normally drive to. What could be better than getting in shape and helping the environment, all at the same time.
Be Safe
When you ride your bike, remember to follow all of the local street laws, and that you wear the proper gear to protect yourself from injury in the event of an accident.
Wear a helmet (which is required by law in most areas), and even though you may feel silly, wear elbow and knee pads. When you ride safe, you will have less risk of injury, and you will enjoy yourself much more.
