Bird Flu Pandemic: Is Your State Prepared?

With new cases of the avian flu cropping up all over the world, US health officials have rated all 50 states based on how well prepared they are for a potential bird flu pandemic.

The Trust for America's Health prepared the report and based their ratings on 10 different factors, including how quickly and efficiently your state could issue vaccines in the event of an outbreak.

Some states are in a great position to provide the best and fastest care, while others are shockingly unprepared to combat such a serious health threat.

"Emergency health preparedness is on the national radar, but until all states are equally well prepared, our country is not as safe as it can or should be," said Jeff Levi, director of the Trust.

Human to human and contact transmission of influenza occur - but are overvalued immensely. In the course of Influenza epidemics in Germany recognized clusters happen rarely (9% of the cases in the 2005 season).
