What has happened to those days when you could pick up a glass and fill it up with water from a tap at your home? Is the water so bad that you now have to resort to bottled water instead?
And while this does happen with people who are more inclined to drink water which is bought from a store, you should also know that there are issues with polycarbonate bottles as well if you don't already as studies have shown that there are health issues that stem from the continuous of these bottles.
The Controversy Surrounding Polycarbonate Plastic Bottles
Almost always, when you purchase one of these bottles, you tend to use them over and over again while getting your refills from various sources. And they're everywhere… and almost every one uses one of these bottles not knowing of the danger that comes from using one of these water-carrying implements.
Speaking of implements, some of these polycarbonate products come in the form of watercoolers, sippy cups, sport bottles, baby bottles and tumblers and despite the fact that these containers are reusable, light and very portable, the real problem stems from the situation of the compound known as Bisphenol A which is being used to make these products. And it's not good for you…
BPA – Effects on Human Health
There have been several studies that have been conducted in the recent past to see if there are any effects on human health by BPA bottles, and in summary, several diseases such as cardiovascular illnesses, diabetes, breast and prostate cancer, neuroblastoma, neurological diseases and obesity have been linked to the continuous usage of these bottles. But most of all, the truth is that BPA is known to be an endocrine disruptor as well.
One study conducted in December 2009 confirmed the link between prenatal BPA and the behavior in children that was deemed as uncharacteristic, and showed symptoms of aggressiveness, hyperactivity and delinquency.
Another study conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health in September 2009 validated the increase of BPA level in urine samples of those who continuously used polycarbonate beverage containers. The findings also showed that this increase in concentration levels was almost two-thirds more than for those who did not use these bottles that much.
Even though these conclusions can be pretty damning, the truth is that people have used these bottles so much (in almost every aspect of their lives) that dropping this habit seems to be a difficult one.
But there are other alternatives that can be explored just in case you wish to take this information seriously.
Alternatives to BPA Bottles
Thanks to this controversy that has been brought up time and time again, several companies has brought out alternatives to stop the use of BPA bottles with much safer alternatives.
So, here is a list of containers that one can look for almost anywhere if they want to move away from this habit for good.
1. EvenFlo
2. Green to Grow
3. Mambaby
4. Klean Kanteen
5. Medela
6. Thermos
In Closing
And despite the fact that there is strong evidence to suggest that these beverage containers can cause problems, several countries have decided to ignore this problem. And while where it is taken seriously, manufacturers have been asked to stop the production of these bottles, one can only hope that the aforementioned alternatives are taken seriously at least.

This is actually pretty alarming! I travel extensively through Asia and around the world and due to the poor water in many countries I have am always drinking from bottled water. I know regulation issues exist every where but I will have to double check my bottled water and if it’s made using BPA.
Thanks for brining this to my attention!
