Among all the delightful professions that men can take, perhaps the one that intrigues me the most is that of a gynecologist. Yes, we've all heard the proverbial statement: "Men make better gynecologists as opposed to women". That may be true but if you ask me, it creeps me out completely!
(Pity the man's wife, if you ask me!)
Maybe these gentlemen have indeed got in touch with their effeminate side but for some of us men who enjoy being stereotypical men, that's tough to deal with. (Even Steve Irwin would agree, while turning in his grave.)
Yet another effeminate profession that does come to mind is that of cooking yet it has transcended the obvious "gender bias" to become an art form, if you will. But if you compare this profession with the previous one, honestly, it's just so apples and oranges, at least when it comes to being effeminate.
Tools for the kitchen
Let's say that you have little or no experience when it comes to the kitchen, and you wish to learn the rudiments of what it takes to cook a good meal (and every man should help his wife now and then – that's being sensitive, not effeminate), the first place to begin would be to know that what kind of tools or items are needed to prepare lunch, breakfast or dinner before really getting to the cooking part.
For a start… bowls, frying pans, sauce and stock pots, wooden spoons, flippers, turners and spatulas are all very necessary items required, and being able to identify these items should make for a very good foundation if you really want to master the culinary arts.
(And we're talking about the proverbial bachelor or spinster who needs to get going with these lesson not unless they don't mind going hungry or eating out every night.)
But that's not all: choosing the necessary cutlery (silverware) for the kitchen also plays an important role in being able to prepare a decent meal but is conventionally used to serve and eat with.
Essential Cutlery Tools
When it comes to the eating part, most of us might be familiar with the fork, spoon and the knife for the entree', if you will… cutlery for salads and dessert as well as tablespoons, teaspoons, soup spoons and butter knives among other items also play an important part as well in eating the food that we are so used to.
But since we're talking about cutlery items that help you to prepare and serve foods, here is a list of items that might be just what the doctor ordered for those who are just learning to cook:
#1: Chef's and paring knife
#2: Locking tongs
#3: Whisk
#4: Kitchen shears
#5: Slotted spoon
#6: Serrated bread knife
#7: Garlic & Lemon Press
#8: Potato masher
#9: Y-shaped vegetable peeler
# 10: Normal and microplane grater
But that's not all, here is another list of items that might be useful in the kitchen as well: can opener, salad spinner, measuring cups & spoons, corkscrew, pepper mill, timer and the instant-read thermometer.
Here's another article that might give you a little more information on the cutlery tools that might be useful for your kitchen.
In Closing
No matter how you look at it, most men might be able to learn how to cook but there are only a gifted few who will be able to handle the aforementioned effeminate profession with a straight head. (pun intended)
And while you read this, please feel free to add some of the other cutlery tools that could be added to a rookie's repertoire…
