Writer's block. Grr. That phrase every writer dreads. You sit at the damn PC but the words don't come. Don't come. It's like stalemate but the only thing is that there's no pawn that will help you get your goddamn queen back. Looking at the PC does nothing for me, honestly. Piss me off more, actually.
And one can only sit down at the PC hoping to find those words… that introduction… that flow that most writers would kill to find. But no… almost 60 % of our lives are spent in semi-blankness until we're able to produce a piece of writing that is considered thought provoking and the work of a geni-ass.
Yes, I'm an ass for choosing the profession of a writer. And that's where this train of thought ends with the proverbial ellipsis (…)…
Perhaps this captures the most private thoughts of a writer presenting a dilemma more along the lines of 'to write, or not to write'.
Speaking of dilemmas, and vaguely along the same lines, the dilemma of 'to eat or not to eat' plagues those who do not need a reason to lay their hands on an extra large 'serving' of junk food.
The art of mindless snacking
Ironically, it's these very people who blame others while making excuses for their apparent misfortune (and girth). If you are a senior citizen, disabled or find yourself battling a disease that has been caused for factors out of your control then it's understandable when sick people blame the government (as they have in recent years) for not providing them with appropriate healthcare.
Meaning, if you are unable to control your 'snack addiction' (and there are plenty, of which going on a food binge being one of them) and you fall sick as a result, you have no right to blame anyone but yourself. Remember it's what you eat, and what you DON'T eat that causes these results.
Since what (and when) we eat, plays such an important role in weight control, it also plays an indirect (yet equally important) role in determining whether we will stay healthy or not.
Perhaps, one of the best ways to eliminate mindless snacking is to understand the short and long term consequences (and numerous benefits) that are involved with abstaining from food that does nothing for you.
For some though, the benefits that come with not eating junk food are brushed aside as they have begun to depend on these foods for 'pleasure' instead of stopping to think for a moment as to the effects of going over the top with these foods.
'Mindless' (but effective) methods to stop addiction
So, for these folks, enforcing a rule which allows one to only eat at the dinner table should be effective at the outset, while eating out of the box and in front of the telly should be the first to go on your list of things to remember.
If one is serious about going the distance with this, a stricter rule that does not allow junk food to be brought into the house can also be applied much later. But this can only happen when the first rule is adhered to for a period of time.
You're a lucky man if you've quit smoking cold turkey but for the ones who don't, the addiction comes back with a vengeance, and is harder to leave the second time around! Similarly, even in matters of junk food, one must take baby steps to a healthier future!
In Closing
All of us have our doubts, whether in our ability to write or to kick a habit but what matters at the end of it all, just as so many writers and doctors have suggested, is that you at least get started and you never know what it may lead to. For a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step…
