<h2>Weekly Recap (December 28 - January 4, 2009)</h2>
<p>So much for my 2-week experiment! I made it through about 11 days of absolutely perfect eating, even while traveling from Richmond to Atlanta to Charleston for a week-long, end-of-the-year vacation.</p>
<p>This included me lugging along a gargantuan 50-quart cooler to and from each destination, filled with chicken breasts and frozen vegetables, not to mention the incessant questions from those unfamiliar with my OCD, &#034;Why do you eat this stuff?,&#034; &#034;YOU are on a DIET?!,&#034; &#034;Don&#039;t you just want to try some of this?,&#034; etc., etc&#8230;.</p>
<p>Finally, I snapped at the very end of the year and embarked on a 3-day binge that dwarfs even the most epic of my previous dietary excursions.</p>
<p>I&#039;m talking non-stop junk food, fast food, crap food, including every single minor craving I&#039;ve ever had, to the point of complete bloating and upset stomach round-the-clock.</p>
<p>It&#039;s amazing how my mind justified one terrible decision after another&#8230;</p>
<p>First, it was just a quick end-of-the-year indulgence to celebrate a great 2008.</p>
<p>Then, it morphed into a 24-hour cheat day&#8230;</p>
<p>Then, it became a full end-of-the-year binge that would last until today, since tomorrow is when the New Year &#034;really&#034; starts anyway.</p>
<p>I had weighed myself only 48 hours before the meltdown, and I was right at 185, which means I put on over 10 pounds in less than 72 hours!</p>
<p>I didn&#039;t even bother to track what I was eating either, because I couldn&#039;t have kept up. I don&#039;t even want to imagine or guesstimate just how many calories went plunging down my gullet over the last few days.</p>
<p>Suffice it to say that it would probably put even Michael Phelps to shame. Unfortunately, I wasn&#039;t in the pool for several hours a day burning them off!</p>
<p>One of the few good things about all of this is now I at least have some horrendous numbers which will make the next couple of weeks&#039; progress seem even more dramatic.</p>
<p>I&#039;m back to the weights tomorrow, though I&#039;ll be sure to take it slow and smooth, since I haven&#039;t done any weight-work in a few weeks.</p>
<p>For most of December, it was all body-weight exercises, mixed in with the end-of-the-year no-weight non-exercises.</p>
<p>I&#039;m looking forward to getting everything back in order and glad to have the Binge-athon of all Binge-athons behind me!</p>

<h2>Weekly Recap (December 21-28, 2008)</h2>
<p>I arrived in Atlanta Friday night for a week-long vacation that will end in Charleston, SC for New Year&#039;s.</p>
<p>Like a true, overly-obsessive fitness and nutrition enthusiast, I cooked and prepared all of my meals for the entire week and brought them with me in a giant cooler.</p>
<p>Workouts are going to be freestyle as planned, with lots of body-weight work and basketball games.</p>
<p>We played for 3 full hours yesterday and will probably do the same at least one or two more days.</p>
<p>It feels weird not taking measurements today, since it&#039;s been a long time since I haven&#039;t taken them every week, but it&#039;s going to make next week&#039;s numbers even more exciting.</p>
<p>I&#039;m really curious how the drastic change this week is going to shake things up.</p>
<p>Also, I&#039;m still tweaking a few things to try and raise my pH. Like I predicted last week, I was pretty low at only about 5.5.</p>
<p>An ideal pH level is about 6.2-7.0.</p>
<p>The biggest change I made was simply removing boiled eggs, since those were the most acidic things I ate by far.</p>
<p>I&#039;m curious to see if I have at least broken into the 6&#039;s when I get back.</p>
<p>It feels great to know I&#039;m not sacrificing health or food choices and can continue a healthy lifestyle, even while enjoying a multi-destination week-long vacation.</p>

<h2>Weekly Recap (December 14-21, 2008)</h2>
<p>This was another interesting week, as I stuck with my body-weight Pyramid scheme, and my stats and measurements stayed almost exactly the same.</p>
<p>I know it&#039;s still early, but I still am surprised at how little effect switching back to the &#034;old school&#034; way of eating has had on my progress.</p>
<p>For the past few years, I had completely bought into the eating every 2-3 hours routine, without every really giving it a second thought ever since.</p>
<p>After reading &#034;<a href="http://www.fitbuff.com/products/eat-stop-eat/" title="Top Intermittent Fasting Program">Eat Stop Eat</a>,&#034; I still wasn&#039;t completely convinced, but figured I would give a few of the book&#039;s concepts a shot.</p>
<p>I&#039;ve now gone back to only 3-4 big meals per day for about two weeks, and my metabolism hasn&#039;t come to a screeching halt just yet.</p>
<p>I actually feel even better, and it&#039;s wonderful to not have to be eating and/or preparing to eat ALL the time!</p>
<p>It&#039;s made me a lot more efficient, and I&#039;m actually able to leave the house without my trusty tupperware or snack bags now.</p>
<p>That was just one of the asides of &#034;Eat Stop Eat,&#034; but I&#039;ve also been trying out the main concept of the book by fasting for 24 hours once per week.</p>
<p>Today is the start of my third fast, and I still can&#039;t believe how easy the first two have been.</p>
<p>I thought I would be absolutely starving only a few hours in, but with each one so far, I&#039;d say I haven&#039;t even gotten up to a 3 on the &#034;hunger scale.&#034;</p>
<p>As if I didn&#039;t already have enough experimentation going on, I&#039;m interested in one more aspect of nutrition, namely, its effect on pH levels in the body.</p>
<p>I&#039;ve never tested mine, but it&#039;s easy to do with a box of cheap pH strips that can be found at just about any pharmacy or health store, so I&#039;m going to pick some up today.</p>
<p>From what I&#039;ve read, I may be a little more acidic than is optimal, since I&#039;ve cut out a lot of fruit, while eating a lot of chicken.</p>
<p>Fruit and vegetables are some of the best foods for reducing your body&#039;s acidity, so if my pH level comes up a little low (acidic), I may delve back into the fruit conundrum and do some tweaking there.</p>
<p>The thing that makes this all even more interesting is that I&#039;ll be out of town for most of the next 2 weeks (including this weekend), and I&#039;m actually looking forward to letting the effects of my experiment take their course over a longer period of time.</p>
<p>I&#039;ve been taking measurements and stats every week for quite some time, and I&#039;ll continue to do so after next week, but I&#039;m going to use this 2-week period to add another twist to the science!</p>
<p>I&#039;ll still be doing my regular updates, and even my Weekly Recap next week, just without weighing and measuring myself, so I should be in for a real surprise 2 weeks from now!</p>
