First Date Ideas

In one of our previous contests, Contest: "The Game" by Neil Strauss, members could ask any dating-related question that was holding back "Their Game."

Below is the first of those questions, along with answers, as promised, to make sure you come out on top (or on bottom?).

First Date Ideas: What is the best place to take a first date?

First date ideas

This is a very common concern among men: "Where do I take her?" "How much should I spend?" "Does she like Thai food?" "Is Friday night right for a first date?"

The most important thing to remember: the location is completely irrelevant.

I know that sounds cliche and frustrating, but it's true. Ask any of your female friends or relatives, and they'll tell you they much rather go grocery shopping with a fun and interesting guy than go to a fancy restaurant with a nervous and boring clamshell.

In fact, I've literally taken women along with me while running errands as a "first date." It gives both of us a chance to experience each other in everyday situations. It's less intimidating. No rules. No awkward silences. It's alive and a live show.

You're simply riffing off each other's energy, and no one knows what's coming next. You're moving around in an open world with infinite opportunities and possibilities for exciting moments.

Doesn't that sound much more exciting than being shackled and handcuffed to a corner booth, while you watch each other chew your food? I've never seen the value in going through the traditional motions of a scripted dinner-and-a-movie date. Those feel so restricting and overdone: "You look nice." "Thanks." "Is your salad good?" "Yes. Is yours?" "Yes."…blah, blah, blah…ZZZZZZZ.

I want to interact with a woman in a variety of situations to see how she handles herself and if we can enjoy each other's company anytime, anywhere.

So, how do you initiate this type of "date"? It's easy: Just say playfully, "Hey, I'm going to run some errands, and you're coming with me." If you had any kind of connection at all when you first met, she'll come along.

Now, it's all up to you. No matter where you take her, make it a good time. I guarantee if you can make a memorable experience out of grocery shopping or buying a new coffee table, there will be plenty more dates after the first.

And once things start heating up, here's how you can use chocolate to get her in the mood.

I completely agree on the boring dinner and a movie dates. Those rarely provide any insight into what a relationship will be like.

As a woman I would have to totally agree. I'd much rather go on a date like you described than waste an hour in a restaurant.

I don't know. I think I would feel kind of silly asking a girl if she wants to go grocery shopping?

I always wanted to do something like this, but I didn't know if women would think it was weird. I got a great girl's number on Friday, so I'll try this idea with her.

Seems kind of strange but I guess I understand the logic behind it.

Very good advice. I gave up the robot method a long time ago.

Right on! If a man asks me to go to dinner on a first date, I suddenly have "other plans".

There are few distractions on the dinner date, and that is its advantage…or its disadvantage, if you've chosen a boring companion (or are a boring companion yourself)!

I've been using this concept for years, don't let all of our tricks out of the bag ;)

An interesting concept, the come along with me while I do errands one. If the guy was casual and matter of fact when asking, then I'd probably do it. I hate the usual first date expectations, so grocery shopping should help break the ice somewhat. Also a good insight into what they eat and vice-versa. I've been on some shocker first dates so any reasonable, more active date has gotta be good.

I actually tried this, and I'll be taking a girl I met this weekend with me to run errands on Wednesday. She didn't seem weirded out by it at all and actually sounded kind of excited. I'll report back…

I've actually done this a few times myself too, works like a charm.

So true, traditional dates are for "Wusses" as David D would say.

Couldn't agree more, great post, but don't give all of our secrets away :)

Love it, I'll be trying this out too…

That's the key…that there should never be a "template" or scripted date. It's all about being yourself and too many people try to dissect it way too much.

Exactly, never blend in with the normal!

It is a consensus then. Dinner followed by chocolate desert for the first date and pure 65% dark cocoa at the house for the second date.

I'm not sure if I can totally agree with the notion that the locale of the date is not key, however I will say that the energy of a locate can add to the flavor of the date and can give you guys a grander stage to seduce and attract your date.

uhmmmmmmm nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

How about going to a driving range! :) Golf range! Activities are fun! Great post by the way, very useful!
