We here it for a number of different reasons in a number of different contexts, if you want to become healthier you have to exercise regularly. While this is undoubtedly true, there are a number of other reasons why we should exercise regularly that are given much less publicity. I firmly believe in finding as many positive consequences of any act I may need a little convincing to partake in. The following list includes five additional reasons why you should get off the couch and get active.

Mental Health – Dr. Daniel Landers conducted research at Arizona State University that concluded that regular exercise had a number of different positive effects on an individuals overall mental health. These improvements in mental health were particularly evident in the areas of anxiety and depression reduction. His study came to the conclusion that regular exercise led to improved self-esteem, positive mood, and restful sleep. A number of different studies have since been conducted to support these claims.

Immune System – Regular exercise has also been proven to help improve the overall strength of your immune system. This will afford you and increased ability to stave off disease and infection while also increasing the rate at which you overcome various ailments. This is done because regular exercise has been proven to increase the number of macrophages(cells that remove bacteria and other pathogens from the body). The helpful effects of exercise on the immune system are only present when exercise is carried out in moderation, and not overdone.

Acne Reduction – This may seem slightly counterintuitive to some, since exercise invariably involves the production of sweat which is believe to clog pores and lead to acne. It must be understood that stress is one of the leading causes ofacne and regular exercise has been proven to reduce stress levels. This is done by reducing the production of the hormone cortisol. Cortisol, among other things, activates sweat and oil glands which can clog pores. Numerous studies have been conducted that show the relationship between exercise and a reduction in acne.

Improved Sex Life – Regular exercise increases overall blood flow throughout the body. This includes the penis. Many men with erectile dysfunction can improve their condition by simply exercising regularly. Other physical side effects include a harder erection and prolonged endurance. It must be noted, that erectile dysfunction could be the result of cardiovascular disease and should also be discussed with your physician.

Social Effects – I can't count the number of friends I have made via my pursuit of physical fitness. Exercising regularly opens the doors to a world of people who are energetic go-getters. The best way to maintain a healthy lifestyle is to surround yourself with people who are also involved in the process. The best way to do that is to get out there and be active. You're likely to be amazed by the results.
