I wanted to sit. I now have an Ergo Desktop Kangaroo Pro that sits on my existing desk and holds all my stuff allowing me to switch between standing and sitting in like 2 seconds. No more sitting for 8 hours a day for me. Once you start working standing up, you never want to go back to that chained to the chair lifestyle again.

[...] instead of sitting is beneficial for the back. Second, standing can help a person become more productive. How many of us have slouched back in our chair and just day dreamed about meaningless stuff? [...]

I started out the same way propping my laptop on a stack of books and then moving it back to the desktop when I wanted to sit.

Hey Beth, my fellow stander-upper! That sounds like a nice setup, do you happen to have a picture to share, especially of the cushion solution? That sounds like it would make shifting almost automatic, which would be great.

I have been at my stand up desk for nearly 2 years. since I work in stocking feet and the desk is on a plastic cover to protect the carpet, I need foot cushioning. For that reason I stand on a cushion. The surface is padded but not flat due to the way the cushion was made. This gives me a way to constantly shift on the surface and massage my feet. I wonder if one of those wooden bead car seats would also work.

Hey folks! Glad to hear lots of people are getting turned on to the benefits of using a stand-up desk. That's great news to me because we make them! Check out our web site, www.grahampeterson.com and click on the Stand-up Desk Collection, then the Uncle Alex Stand-up Desk. He was my great uncle and he always used to say "One man on his feet is worth two in his seat!" And it's a truly beautiful desk for any office, NOT an ugly metal work station!

Happy standing!

Sounds awesome Ian, do you have a picture?

I'd love to post it to give other people ideas on how to build one of their own.

Hi Folks...

I am a severe sciatica/back pain sufferer who can't sit for long periods. I have a standing desk that I built. I kept checking the thrift stores for an entertainment center that came up to about my elbows. Then I took a nice wood stained closet door and screwed it to the top of the entertainment center from beneath.

I FREEKIN LOVE IT SO DOES MY BACK. Even if I didn't have back problems, I would now do it anyway. It's awesome. Looks absolutely beautiful too.

Hey, I was just browsing around the Net and ran across your comments on where you can find good stand up desks. EASY! We make 'em. Check out our Uncle Alex Stand up Desk or the PayStation, Sr. Stand up desk at www.grahampeterson.com. They are also adjustable so you can set them to the height that is comfortable for you. Very attractive and very well designed (if I do say so myself). I think you would agree. All the details are there. Email me personally if you have any questions. Take care.
