It’s very irritating when you hear of people who overdo it in the gym, considering how popular the general view of health and fitness these days.
A workout is much like any task at work: jumping right into it hardly seems the way to go.
Yet it seems as if some people are not able to curb their enthusiasm, which fizzles out after a few months of slugging it out at the gym.
Now I don’t mean to be preachy but the thing is that when you get into workout mode, there are a few things that you have to do beforehand, even if it means poring over a few YouTube videos or even take the assistance of a bunch of helpful articles on a host of pointers that might be helpful if you do work out regularly.
Meaning to say, background work – especially for some of us who are just getting started.
At least, that’s what I did, when starting off at first, and which is why, at this age, I’ve managed to avoid serious injuries despite pushing through a solid enough one hour workout for a few years.
It’s in your best interests, really. This practice will stand you in good stead whether you’re trying something as simple as lunges exercises or even as complex as compound exercises that work on the entire body, if not several muscle groups.
Lunges Exercises – The Advantages
The beauty of exercise, especially if you understand muscle groups, is that you don’t just have one exercise to develop a particular muscle group. Whether this pertains to your biceps, hamstrings or your lower back, there are a number of exercises that can be used to strengthen whichever muscle group you think needs to be worked on.
The sample applies to lunges exercises as well, and which for all practical purposes is an excellent lower body exercise, working not only the glutes but also the quads, calves and hamstrings.
Speaking of variations, probably the most common one tried is usually a lunge without weights, and after which, in order to add resistance, one can use a pair of dumbbells or raise barbells overhead to perform one of these reps.
The benefits involved with performing such an exercise begins with strengthening of the legs but also improving balance and coordination among a host of other advantages.
This should only tell you one thing about the lunge in its simplest or complex variant – it is an exercise that must be included in any workout without fail.
Lunges Exercises – How to Perform One Rep
As mentioned earlier, there are numerous YouTube videos that offer excellent advice on how to perform exercises, and so without wasting any more time, let’s watch a video that shows us how to perform a few repetitions of the alternating lunge.
Also, here is another video that deals with the 10 types of lunges, and which can used later on, if you want to change things around as you progress from basic to advanced workouts.
So, what are the benefits that you’ve noticed in performing lunges exercises? Please feel free to share in the comments section below.
