This is my HIIT workout

Stationary Bike (Resistance 5)

1-4 mins warm up
5-10 mins 30 sec max intensity/30 sec rest
11-14 mins cooldown

I plan do this on resistance level 5 on a stationary bike. My question is does the warm up and cool down also have to be at the same resistance (level 5)?

I figured this out on my own and am somewhere between "old school" and "new school." However, I haven't done it for weeks in a row as I changed up with 30 minute high intensity cardo/30 minute fat burn according to my heart rate. When I decided I was going to do what I now is called HIIT I happened to have received an injury. So I will let you know how it works after a 6 week stretch.

For me it is the bike. I do sprints every 3 minutes. I am on level 6 or 7 at 55 to 65 when not sprinting. On sprints I am on level 9 or 10 at 110 to 125.

I am 42 , was obese for a lot of years, then overweight and just never hit my healthy goal weight. Now I want to hit my healthy goal weight and tone as much as I possibly can. (lol... nothing outside a body lift will fix the years of not taking care of myself but I am going to do all I can.)

Hey Curtis,

You're ahead of your time!

Increasing/decreasing RPM is the more common method, but if you've never tried it that way, you might as well see what you haven't been missing... :D

Hi Brandon,

Little did I know I've been doing HIIT 2.0 all along. My workout usually consists of alternating one-minute intervals at 80-85 rpm's at varying levels of intensity.

What I haven't tried is keeping the resistance the same and increasing the rpm's. I'll have to give it a try.

Hey Zach,

No problem, as you know "old school" is still excellent and beats the TRUE old school form of slow, boring cardio anyday.

You can still try it out at a local gym sometime if you're curious, then when it's time for a bike upgrade just keep an eye out for the resistance feature!
