Weekly Recap (March 30 – April 6)

Talk about two completely opposite weeks! The week before this past week I was eating like a madman, capped off by my "all you can eat weekend" when I went out of town last weekend. All of that added up to a big jump in weight to over 195.

Then, this past week was my active rest week and, deciding to try something different, I opted for Bikram yoga as my active rest. It was my first experience with any type of yoga, and since this one is done in a 100+ degree room for 90 minutes and involves several bodyweight squats and other physically demanding moves, it was much more "active" than I ever imagined.

Those 90 minute classes are on par with, if not more demanding, than some of my hardest basketball practices. Nevertheless, I stuck with them, and did one every morning for 6 days straight, the last one being yesterday. Though they were hard, it does feel really good to sweat that much and I actually felt energized after each one.

I noticed throughout the week that I was really hungry a lot of the time, but I thought it was just due to cravings since I had gone from a pretty unclean week, to a virtually perfect diet for last week. It turns out those 90 minute sweat sessions were literally melting me, and I dropped over 10 pounds this week!

I certainly didn't intend to lose that much weight and could have easily countered a lot of it with an increase in calories, but I didn't weigh myself during the week to track what was going on (not very smart!). Hopefully a lot of the lost weight was just water weight and fat, and I'm sure I can't have lost too much muscle in only 6 days, but we'll find out tomorrow when I resume weight lifting.

I liked Bikram yoga so much though, that I still plan on doing one class per week on Saturday's, and now I'll know to increase my calories on class days!

Oh, and the digital scale is still haywire since I dropped all that weight and lost over an inch in my waist, but it still says I'm over 20% body fat! I know I'm not in single digits, but I can't be THAT far off! I'll continue to take that measurement with a grain of salt and pay more attention to my actual circumference measurements and, of course, the mirror.

That about raps it up for this week. See you next Sunday and don't forget you can follow my daily updates over at the forums in this thread: Personal Daily Workout Log.
