Introduction

In reading Daniel Defoe's 'Robinson Crusoe', one often gets acquainted with the term 'Man Friday' for his faithful (and yes, since we're all about equality these days), 'Girl Friday' for his female counterpart.

As in the novel, they fought side by side, and went everywhere together all the while making a difference in each others lives.

In today's world, however, dogs have taken over that position as 'man's best friend' and aren't they just loving and caring to be around unlike the self-centered cats.

From German Shepherd police dogs to cute fluffy poodles, canines have supplanted themselves as humans favorite pets.

However, there is one thing that some of us can learn from cats, and that is to take good care of ourselves through exercise and diet. And ever since people have been working out indoors, using a treadmill has its unique benefits.

Not only does using a treadmill reduce the strain on the ankles, lower back and knees but is able to complete their workout in the safety of their own homes, and this is especially true for women who don't need the attention when they leave the house for a jog in a dangerous neighborhood.

However, just as you would like to exercise, so do dogs as well and if you haven't though of it yet, one can purchase a dog treadmill that fits the needs of their dog.

Dog Treadmills

Firstly, there are two reasons why most people should go in for a treadmill such as this one. Your dog needs exercise, and if you are too busy with your work (which means that you don't have the time to take him or her out) or the weather is just not good for outdoor activity, then this works out to your advantage.

Anyways, since the most popular excuse for not being able to exercise  start with the words "I'm too busy", unfortunately this also extends to not taking your dog for its daily exercise.

And from the looks of it, the treadmill seems to be a good solution for the days when you are really very busy so that the dog can do his or her thing. Experts say that dogs who get exercise everyday lives up to three years longer than dogs who don't.

Benefits

Here are some of the benefits that are associated with a dog treadmill:

1) Boredom and then destructive behavior sets in when dogs don't get exercise. However, they are a little scared when they first get on the treadmill but after a period of time, they get used to it and even begin to enjoy it.

2) Once the dog gets used to the treadmill, one can go about their daily business without worrying about taking care of their pet dog.

3) A treadmill is good cardiovascular exercise and builds general endurance in dogs, just like it does for humans. And what's more,  there is little to no risk of injury when using a treadmill when jogging or walking.

Sources

If one is looking for dog treadmills, there are several sizes (based on the size of your dog) and features that will help you find the right dog treadmill for your dog.

The best way to go about finding the right treadmill for your dog is to look for options that you like over the internet, after which, one can go down to the store and purchase one of them.

In Closing

For some of you, this idea might sound absurd not unless if you have heard of it or seen it somewhere already, but hey why not… it's for your man/ girl Friday!

Our German Shepherd would love a treadmill if he thought he was going somewhere- maybe we could dangle a reward. Our Great Dane wouldn’t go near it- we can barely get her up to go outside to do her business!
