Introduction
Bullshit is bullshit. Even when it's packaged well, and this is perhaps the magic of having a creative and cunning PR and advertising department to 'package' your product.
Of course, this is why the phrase "let the buyer beware" was coined, just so that one knows what they're getting into. And of course, they've only got themselves to blame for the consequences in expecting people to be honest when it comes to money.
Personally speaking, I despise the business of "secrets" for that by itself, gains enough attention, and just clay in the hands of a smart and savvy marketing department.
And I'm talking this book which claims to have about a bazillion medical secrets that was first released in 2006. And if that's not enough, it's first edition was rather daringly titled "The World's Greatest Treasury of Health Secrets".
And since people say that you should never judge "a book by its cover", let's take a closer look at whether or the facts and delicious 'secrets' in this book indeed holds water.
The World's Greatest Treasury of Health Secrets – Or is it another sham?
In reading comments across the web, a lot of people did not approve the content in the book and found the infomercial misleading. Huh? So what's new?
Some said that it was "poorly constructed and written" but with no explanation why they thought so. Do explain why for one to take you seriously, please!
Some of the comments were negatively directed towards Bottom Line Books who were apparently tardy with financial transactions and the 'return of the books'… but that's an administrative thingy… isn't it?
However, one must take the background and experience of the folks who have been critical into account before taking it seriously. Most of them are medical professionals who are well versed with their field of medicine… or so we think?
In Taking a Closer Look…
For the layman, this book reveals a lot of tips about diseases that we might have only been briefly acquainted with alongwith everyday health issues that men and women of varying ages have to deal with.
Here is the table of contents (at the Chapter and Section level) of the book that one can peruse through to see if there's anything that interests them.
And if you like what you see, then be aware that the book as large as 563 pages from cover to cover, and that it will take you a good amount of time to get through the book.
According to this book review on its latest version, most of the 900 articles published in this book are well-written by medical researchers and doctors who are currently working in the fields discussed but the CATCH is that they have written it removing the jargon (that lawyers use to take advantage of those who do not understand the law, and what sheisters use to pull off the largest scams possible). And doctors are pretty capable of using large words themselves…
Another aspect of this book is that it is based on principles that you will find in "alternative medicine", and if you don't like this aspect of medicine, you won't like it very much either.
In Closing
From a personal point-of-view, it has gotten me very interested because I'm open to various points of view in medicine, as the only thing that is certain about health is that it actually means different things to all of us, and hey, what works for you… won't work for me.
And a final thought: How can someone call a book that is filled with information in 563 pages a total 'sham'. At least something has to be new and useful… right?
One can't know everything!
Let's see… I'm buying the book shortly!
