Cigarettes are one of the leading causes of death in the world. They contain more than 4000 chemical compounds and at least 400 toxic substances. Not only does it cause lung cancer, smoking can also give the person cardiovascular diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and other cancers like bladder cancer, cancer of the esophagus, cancer of the kidneys, cancer of the pancreas, and cervical cancer. An estimated 400,000 Americans die every year from the effects of smoking.
