Why Drink Water?

Why Drink Water?

Why drink water, you ask? The reasons are as abundant as water itself, and that's saying a lot, considering it makes up the majority of our planet, as well as a majority of YOU.

Not only does water account for about 75 percent of the Earth's surface, your own body is about 70 percent water too!

So, while they are an endless number of reasons why this stuff does your body good'er than milk, here are five of the best.

Why Drink Water? Top 3 Reasons

1. Protect your kidneys.
Toxins and water-soluable waste pass through your kidneys before being excreted in the urine.

Regularly flushing the kidneys with water helps speed the process along, ensuring the "bad guys" don't hang around for too long and cause any trouble.

This flushing also keeps things moving to prevent the dreaded kidney stones.

A good rule of thumb to go by: The darker your urine, the more dehydrated you are. Try to keep your urine flowing at a light yellow stream.

2. Fill 'er up.
Did you know many times when you think your hungry, you're really just thirsty.

Sometimes, it's very hard for out body to tell the subtle difference between the two urges, so you may be reaching for the calorie-filled fork, when you would be just as satisfied with a zero-calorie glass of water.

Next time you get "hungry," even though you know you probably shouldn't be, since you just ate not too long ago, reach for a glass of cold water instead, and you may find that your "hunger" goes right away.

3. Nature's Gatorade.
As stated above, the majority of your body is made up of water, including your muscles, which are almost like water balloons.

Your muscle cells are constantly balancing their levels of fluids and electrolytes, and when you start to sweat a lot during physical activity, you need to replace those lost fluids.

A good rule of thumb is about 8 ounces of water per hour of exercise, including the hour before and after physical activity.

Just remember, once you become thirsty, you're probably already slightly dehydrated, so you want to stay ahead of the curve and adequately hydrated at all times.

Since there are so many other great ones, what are some of your "why drink water" reasons?
