Wrist wraps are simple yet effective workout tools that minimize unwanted stress on wrists. They’re used to help lift more weight without increasing the risk of injury, not just lift more weight. Here’s a rundown of all the best wrist wraps on the market today and which ones are best suited for certain needs.
Gym gear such as lifting shoes (read: wrestling shoes) appendage sleeves and compression gear is common to every gym. Wrist wraps can usually be found hanging around somewhere, but they’re usually really old and not many people use them? Ever wonder why? Truth be told, most people simply don’t know what they are. The ones that do often know enough to recognize a half-cocked design when they see one. Fortunately, we’ve found some of the best wrist wraps out there to help get you sorted out.
If you’re just here for a quick recommendation our top choice for best wrist wrap is the Slingshot Gangsta Wraps. They are stiffer than usual, have durable and strong velcro, and are IPF rated. Did we mention they come in Camo?
When to Use Wrist Wraps
High-quality wrist wraps support your joints during exercises such as deadlift, pull-ups, and even bench press. This allows the safer lifting of heavier weight without unnecessarily straining the joints. In other words, your muscles are doing all the work! Wrist wraps are meant for heavy lifting at, or near, one’s max. Using wrist wraps for high-rep workouts can decrease one’s mobility and overall range-of-motion. It’s tempting to use wrist wraps for lifts such as front squats but not advisable. Also noteworthy: wrist wraps are not the same thing as lifting straps. The two are used for two very different purposes.
Top-Rated Wrist Wraps
Wrist wraps come in many sizes, colors, designs, and are sometimes meant for specific use cases, such as Crossfit. We’ll try to weave in some consideration into our wrist wrap reviews below to help better explain why each of our picks made it on the list. Wrist wraps aren’t like picking out a new pre-workout supplement: even one’s not specifically designed for your use will still work pretty well. Also, they’re pretty cheap so you can always keep a few different types in your gym bag!
Harbinger Red Line Wrist Wraps
You might recognize these wrist wraps as the same ones used by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. These wraps come in asymmetrical pairs having one for the left hand and one for the right. The velcro on these is wider than comparable products and, in everyone whom we’ve spoken to’s opinion, a better overall experience. Thumb straps included!
Human X Wrist Wrap/Glove Combo
This one’s a bit of a curveball for all you wrist wrap diehards. HumanX’s X3 full-finger glove provides competition-level grip and padded wrist support. It’s made of real leather, has a seamless grip design, and looks flat-out awesome! There’s not a lot of padding in the actual glove but if you’re expecting that there’s no problem. These aren’t the best gloves on the market by any stretch of the imagination but will get the job done.
Schiek Sports Line Wrist Wraps
These wrist wraps were designed with pro bodybuilders in mind. They’re tough, well-padded, and offer considerable joint support during heavy lift exercises. We’d also note that, while padded enough to offer ample support, these wrist wraps won’t deprive you of the motions you’re going for. In other words, they don’t get in the way. The only downside to these wrist wraps is that they’re just good enough to make you think they’ll suffice for recovering after a major sprain or break. They’re good, but not quite that good. Still, one of the best wrist wraps on the market.
Rogue Wrist Wraps
Rogue Fitness has become a bit of a phenom in the fitness world and many herald their wrist wraps as a gift from Zeus’ gym. These wraps come in 12″-24″ sizings and will pretty much wrap around any wrist on there. The longer the sizing (or the smaller diameter your wrist) the more padding you’ll get. We’d recommend the 18″ size for most everyone and only the 24″ for those with massive wrists. Sold in pairs, many colors to choose from, and cheaper than most comparable models. What’s not to love? Probably our favorite overall.
Inzer Iron Z Wrist Wraps
Inzer’s Iron Z wraps come in 12″, 20″ and 36″ lengths and are well-suited for just about anyone out there. We’d skip over the 12″ unless you are just going for style. 20″ is a great length but, if we’re being honest, we’d like to see one more wrap-around. Maybe a 24-26″ size? This is a velcro design that holds up pretty decently under intense exercise. These are some of the best wrist wraps out there, but we demote them slightly just because they sorta feel like yesteryear’s gear.
Slingshot Gangsta Wraps
Slingshot offers a Level 3 elastic, IPF approved wrap that has blown people away. These wraps are much stiffer than comparable products and can be effectively used for support or compression. They come in 20″ and 36″ sizes and also come in several colors (including camo!) There’s not a whole lot to say about these wraps other than they are f*(&@#$ incredible and you’ll never buy another brand after trying them. Used by lots of pros. Probably our top pick for best wrist wraps on the market.
Wrist wraps come in many varieties. Some are even inbuilt to workout gloves to offer a more holistic experience. Wrist wraps aren’t meant to turn you into a professional-caliber lifter overnight. These products are designed to support your heavy sets and avoid long-term damage to wrists and prevent acute injuries such as sprains or tears. Compared to other fitness gear, wrist wraps are pretty damn cheap. If you’re not sure which one is going to work out the best for you we suggest just go with the Gangsta Wraps from Slingshot and order a different pair if they don’t work out!
